Turning Art Into Textiles
Challenge
Create a 6-print collection inspired by my own art.
Inspiration
I was Inspired by expressionism and the bridges of Portland, Oregon. The Hawthorne bridge and St. Johns bridge, built in the early part of the 1900s, are the perfect pairing for the art of expressionists Delaunay, Marc, and Picasso.
Research
I am a big fan of expressionism and the work of Pablo Picasso, Spanish painter (Expressionism)October 25, 1881 – April 8, 1973; Franz Marc, German Painter (Expressionism) February 8, 1880 – March 4, 1916; and Robert Delaunay French artist (Orphism art movement) April 12, 1885 – October 25, 1941.
I am equally inspired the design and engineering of David Steinman (1886-1960) and Holton Robinson (1863-1945) worked together to build the Hawthorne bridge. Waddell (1854-1938) & Harrington (1868-1942) worked together for a few years and built the famous St. Johns Bridge.
Process
Taking Inspiration from the Early 20th Century art & architecture and a dash of Portland today, I painted a few scenes of Portland past and it mixed with the present. After completing my paintings, I cut them up, rearranged and blended them into unique patterns.
